Saturday Morning Breakfast Extravaganza

Closed for the Summer!

Check again early/mid September
for 2019-2020 season schedule.

What is the Saturday Morning Breakfast Extravaganza?

The Saturday Morning Breakfast Extravaganza is curling for new and experienced curlers, club members and non-members, with ad hoc team formation the day of play. The emphasis is on our guests learning to curl and everyone having fun. We provide instruction for guests and members, then serve breakfast, and then curl–it’s an Extravaganza!

Never curled before? That's OK!

This is your opportunity to give curling a try! For a $25 donation, guests will receive about an hour of instruction and practice, and will then be assigned to a team for a game after breakfast. Teams will consist of new and experienced curlers, and will be formed by the league coordinator during breakfast. We will do our best to balance the teams and accommodate requests for pairing with (or against!) others.

Participants must be able to slide a 44-lb granite curling stone up to 150 feet on the ice. If you plan to bring children, then please consider age and physical abilities when assessing whether or not the program is appropriate for them. Our experience tells us that young curlers should be at least in their teen years.

Please arrive no later than 7:45 am (map) so we can get you signed in and fitted with grippers. Wear warm, layered, loose fitting clothing and clean, flat-soled shoes. Sneakers, tennis shoes and athletic shoes are ideal. Non-flat-sole shoes (e.g., heels and dress shoes) are unsafe on the ice and are not permitted.

A signed liability waiver is required for participation. Download our adult liability waiver or fill one out when you arrive at the club. The youth form must be signed at the club by the youth’s parent or legal guardian.

If you have a large group, then you may wish to consider a club rental. Rentals include use of our warm room, kitchen, all equipment, instruction and guided play — and there is no worry about getting everyone registered before all the guest spots are filled. Please visit our facility rental page for more information.

Advance registration is required.

A maximum of 32 curlers can be accommodated, so members and non-members must register online to reserve a spot. Twelve spots for each event are reserved for non-members. Registration for a given Saturday opens at 8:00 pm Wednesday evening ten days before the event date. All participants must register as individuals.

If the roster for a given Saturday is filled, then members and non-members may join a wait list by sending a message to Breakfast@CurlDC.org. Be sure to include the date for the event you wish to attend. Persons on the waitlist are registered as spots become available, up to approximately 6 pm the Friday evening before the event. Occasionally openings become available Saturday morning from no-shows or last-minute cancellations. You may want to try your luck filling an open spot by coming to the curling center Saturday morning; however, there is no guarantee that a spot will be available.

Just want to check it out but not play? That's OK, too!

If you just want to watch, take photos or video, or wait for a participant to finish, then you are welcome to do so. Just show up -- please do not register as a guest because that will reserve a participant spot for you. Our warm room has a full wall of large windows for watching the on-ice activities; the temperature is usually a balmy 68-70°; and flat-soled shoes are not needed. A participant donation is neither requested nor expected; however, if you choose to join us for breakfast, then we do ask for a small donation of $3-$4 to help defray the food costs. If you wish to enter the ice shed, then you must first sign a liability waiver, and we ask that you remain on the carpeted areas during game play.

Registered but cannot attend?

If you are registered or waitlisted and find that you will not be able to attend, then please cancel your registration or waitlist to free the slot for another member or guest. To cancel, please send an email to the program coordinators.

On-ice instruction will be provided for all new curlers. Advanced instruction is almost always available (on request) for curlers with any level of experience.
