League Lottery

Note: The 2024-25 League Lottery will operate the same as it did last season. Remember the following general procedures:

  • Capital League is not part of the league lottery.
  • One league coordinator is guaranteed a spot in their own league - these may be pre-determined or given to someone expressing interest in coordinating.
  • Members who do not get their first choice league have an elevated chance to get into subsequent league choices.  This improves the chances of everyone getting into at least one league.

Initial Registration

Detailed registration steps can be found for New Members | Renewing Members

  • Whether a new member or a renewing member, please ensure your contact information is correct.
  • Select your membership group (curling vs. non-curling) and membership class.
    • If you are a College Program Member or Youth Program Member, you are not eligible for leagues and no league lottery registration steps are needed.
    • If you are a Regular Member who does not want to join any leagues or only Capital League, no league lottery registration steps are needed.
    • If you are a Regular Member who does want to join a league, please continue!

Registration is not complete until you submit payment for your membership base fees. Payment for leagues are not necessary at this time. Failure to pay the base registration may result in not being included in the lottery.

League Lottery Registration

To enable the lottery, we need the following information

  • The maximum number of lottery leagues in which you want to curl - e.g., this indicates your overall interest in our leagues.
  • The preferred order of your lottery league choices - e.g., this establishes a priority list within each league's lottery
  • Your willingness to coordinate for your league coordinate - e.g., league coordinators may be given a guaranteed slot in the league
  • Any teammate, partner information which might impact the lottery - e.g., some leagues offer or require team entry which affect the lottery

See our League Information page for more information about our league offerings, including their individual costs.  You will not be forced to accept any leagues for which you are selected, but we do kindly request keeping your selections to leagues with a real intent to play.  This reduces the amount of post-lottery clean-up for our Member Services team.

Things to remember:

  • New Members are not eligible for the Lottery in round 1
  • Players can register at any time during the lottery window with no impact on lottery outcome. There will be only one lottery sign up window. All lotteries will be performed after the sign up window closes.
  • League membership is determined by random lottery based on ranked preferences for all leagues except for Capital League.
    • For team-entry leagues and pair-entry leagues, teammates must rank the league at the same preference and must list teammates in the “Notes to Coordinator” section. If you do not rank the league at the same preference, you may not all get in.
    • Players will be billed as individuals but all must be paid for a team to be registered
  • When registering, members will first select the total number of lottery leagues desired (excluding Capital League) and then rank preference of selected leagues for the lottery.
    • Members will get into no more than the maximum number of leagues selected in the first drop down box. Note: increasing this number does not improve your chances in the lottery.
    • Example: If you would like to play in 2 lottery leagues, select 2 from the drop down. Then select your first, second, third, fourth, etc. preferences for the leagues you are interested in. You may rank more than 2 leagues to improve your chances of getting into 2 leagues; however, based on this selection, you will only be placed into a maximum of 2 leagues during the lotteries, assuming space is available based on your preferences.
  • Women’s League has two options to choose from: back end (skip or vice) and front end (lead or second). We are working to make sure the roster is well balanced and meets the goals of the league. If you are willing to play either front or back end, you should rank both options.
  • The primary league coordinator and teammate(s) must rank the league as their first or second choice to be guaranteed a spot.

Lottery Process

Registration will close temporarily while the lottery is being conducted.

Post-Lottery Registration / Remaining League Slots

Upon re-opening of registration, the leagues should now appear on the registration form. Full leagues should be clearly marked and the number of remaining leagues slots should be shown.  If there are still slots remaining in a league after the lottery, these slots are offered on a first come first served basis.

If you are new to registration, you may simple select from the remaining leagues amongst the programs.

If you are already registered, you may update your registration to add or drop leagues.

  • Log in to the website, hover over the "Profile" tab, then click "Member League Update"
  • This will show a registration page that allows you to edit your selected leagues.
Note:  The leagues for which you have already been assigned will already be checked.  Do not uncheck these boxes unless you intend to relinquish your slot. Your updates take effect as soon as you save and if you remove yourself from a league, we may not be able to guarantee you a spot.
  • After you finished making changes, please click that "Save Changes" button.

You will be asked to pay for your leagues. Payment is required before beginning league play and failure to pay puts your league slot at risk.

Please contact Member Services with any questions. We're standing by to help everyone sign up as smoothly as possible.
