Volunteer Roles
How to Volunteer at the Potomac Curling Club
Our Current Google Doc showing Roles, Current members and Board contacts for roles can be viewed HERE.
Assuming a role, and the Responsibilities of its execution, is the single most valuable thing you can do for your club. Letting every member know that something is done reliably and consistently makes us all happier and our club more functional.
If you are interested in a role, contact the current role holder or a Board of Directors member about taking on those responsibilities. Your club members appreciate it greatly!
Below are some basic volunteer roles you may be asked to fill. There are many others

Baking, Soup |
Volunteer from home by baking a dessert or making soup (~24 servings) or another food item requested by the kitchen lead. Just drop off at the club and you’re done! |
|
Bar |
You’ll serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in accordance with PCC’s Alcohol Policy and keep the bar clean. May be asked to process merchandise sales and/or sell raffle tickets. |
|
Ice |
No experience needed! The event coordinator will make sure someone trained to scrape and pebble will be there, but anyone can help with cleaning up the snow, running the mop, nipper, and/or rocks, filling water pitchers, emptying trash, and tidying up the ice shed between games. |
|
Kitchen |
No experience needed! Events will have a kitchen lead and you’ll assist with meal prep work, cooking, washing dishes, and other clean-up - so there’s a job for anyone even if you think your kitchen skills aren’t great. |
|
Warm Room |
Mingle and be socialable with our guests. Keep the warm room tidy - clean tables, take out trash and recycling when full, vacuum. Sell raffle tickets as needed. May be asked to help with other roles like kitchen or ice if they are short on volunteers. |
|
Webcasting |
Commentators will provide commentary on the feature game for our YouTube viewers. Operator will manage the camera views, enter team information and keep score updated, monitor the chat, and may also join in for commentary. |

Instructor |
Give guests a 60-75 minute basic introduction to curling - teach sliding and delivery, sweeping, what the circles and lines mean, scoring, and the spirit of curling. Guests may vary in age and physical abilities. No prior instruction experience is needed - you already know more than the guests and an instruction guide will be provided. After the introductory lesson and break, you’ll facilitate short games. No worries if you don’t feel like you know strategy - you won’t be setting up ends with guards but rather just getting rocks in play in the house. |
